Rough cottongrass (Eriophorum tenellum) Plants

This perennial, bog-loving sedge produces striking white tufts of wool-like hairs that are attached to their maturing fruit. Rough cottongrass has triangular slender stems with very narrow leaves, and spreads from slender rhizomes to form loose groupings. Beloved by seed-eating songbirds like tree sparrows and a larval host for the Jutta Arctic butterfly (Oeneis jutta). Requires acidic, organic-rich soil that is wet to consistently moist.
