A low-maintenance shrub that can be grown in a wide range of sun and soil conditions. Its compact and erect growth form makes it a great hedgerow plant. With dark green foliage, yellow flowers, and a delicate peel on the bark of older stems, it has great year-round interest.
Native to:Â Minnesota to Texas and eastward to New York and Florida. Non-native to Maine.
Growing conditions:Â Sun to part shade, average to dry soil.
Natural habitat:Â Can be found growing everywhere from stream banks to barren, rocky outcrops.
